Big cheers for MAC Design and Build and their team. In particular we want to do a shout out for Justin O'Connell who took a genuine interest in our needs and meeting them. MAC did an extensive renovation in 2021 for our 1986 Colonial Style home in Reston - complete renovation of the main floor (most interior walls removed, completely revamped kitchen, bathroom) and upstairs (new laundry, new master bath, hardwoods). Our home was featured on the Reston Home tour where MACs great work received well earned accolades. I've consulted with Justin subsequently about renovations for another home and just yesterday had him and the MAC team back at our Reston home as we want to get a look at real possibilities for adding space. We look forward to working with them again!

After seeing the MAC sign in a neighbor’s yard, I cold called MAC on a Monday. I met with Justin that same week (after a very helpful conversation with Steve via phone) to go over what we’d like to do in the kitchen. It was a very informative conversation where he explained what would save money and where to spend the money. He listened to what would work for our family and then proposed solutions I hadn’t even thought of - I am very much looking forward to working with MAC.

Derek had a vision for transforming our backyard into a space that felt peaceful, beautiful, and connected to our home — and MAC brought that vision to life in the most incredible way.From the very beginning, their communication was excellent. Every step felt clear, supported, and genuinely cared for. For a project of this size, that level of communication made all the difference.The finished backyard oasis — the deck, patio, and pool — has become my absolute favorite part of our home. We’ve already hosted parties for over sixty people, with friends, family, and neighbors all enjoying the space. It feels welcoming, warm, and perfectly designed for gathering. And on quiet nights, it’s our place to unwind and relax.This space brings us joy every day, and I’m so grateful to the entire MAC team for turning a dream into a place we truly love.

We have just started working with Derek, Justin and team, and it has been a fun and exciting process so far. The team has been thorough and thoughtful to our needs for our addition and has been patient with our needs and in helping us navigate the best use of our space with all the bells and whistles. My parents basement was not finished. My Dad had used the unfinished part as a train room where he had the most elaborate model train setup! When I could no longer afford the rent for my townhouse, they offered to finish the basement for me to move into. Enter Derek from MAC design+build! Derek met with me and my parents and helped us figure out the best way to get the basement finished for me in a very short time frame! From our first meeting with Derek to the design meeting and the project managers, everyone kept us informed about the progress and any issues. My new large living space is amazing! The drywall, trim and painting was done so precisely and beautifully that I still haven't hung anything on the walls because I don't want to mess them up! My parents and I did not stress at all during the renovation process since we knew the MAC team had everything covered!

We are currently working with MAC design+build on a kitchen remodel and they have been amazing to work with from the beginning. They were able to design a kitchen that we had not even been able to envision before meeting with them. Our design team, Derek, Justin, Giovanna and Christine are not only fun and easy to work with but they are so creative. I was very nervous about picking out the different options for our remodel. I get easily overwhelmed especially with so many materials and products to choose. Christine and Giovanna worked with me step-by-step so that I was comfortable with every decision that I made and I felt confident with my choices. Our project manager on site is Russell and I can not say enough good things about him. He answers all my questions promptly and has kept me posted on every step of the project. We are living at the house during the renovation and the teams that come to work on the house have been respectful and friendly. I would definitely recommend MAC design+build to anyone who is looking to remodel their home.

The MAC team is second to none when it comes to home design. The team was able to envision, design, render and develop architectural plans that transformed my front-to-back split level into a new home. The team (Derek, Justin, Crystal and Giovanna) was professional and creative throughout the detailed design process for a new kitchen, two bathrooms, and indoor/outdoor living space. If you are struggling to envision your remodel I would highly recommend MAC. The build is underway and I hope to share continued positives on the finished build.

I have been working with Derek and his team for over 2 years (before we found our property) to design and build our dream home. We just broke ground and I cannot say enough good things about our experience. We were looking for a small volume custom home builder to hold our hand with this massive investment and provide personal attention. That has been our exact experience to date. From the 1-on-1 design processes to permitting and now construction the entire process could not have happened without Mac’s experience and resources. Answering a ton of questions (including the random Sunday morning one!), providing great advice, solving challenges as they come and working with our budget has all been a great collaboration. I recently hired MAC for a kitchen reno project, and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. From the initial consultation with Derek to the final touches, the team was incredibly professional and attentive. They completed the project ahead of schedule without compromising on quality. We completely remodeled our master bath and closet, and retiled a guest bath with MAC. They, by far, gave us the best design for our space we could find! They managed to make the bathroom more functional AND give us a bigger closet within the existing square footage. We started with a different designer that ended up leaving the company for a different job before we demo-ed, but Allison came in and took the reins. She was incredible! Can’t give her enough praise! She was extremely organized and efficient, conscious of our budget, and just had a great eye for design and style. She was always on top of everything and was just a pleasure to work with. She helped me make decisions when I was stuck and her suggests really made the space pop and look amazing. We are very happy with the new space! If you chose MAC, ask for Allison!! The reason for 4/5 stars was due to the fact the project took nearly 2x as long as we expected bc there were a lot of delays and lulls.

We are about halfway through our major construction project of two additions at the same time. The MAC team has been guiding us through the process all along, starting at the initial meeting with Derek Leiter when we explained the vision for our family home. The design really wowed us. We felt like they understood what we wanted and incorporated our must-haves in the planning. Justin O'Connell worked with our budget, and answered our questions regarding the cost breakdown. Allison Ugarte designed a beautiful kitchen and two bathrooms, and I appreciated her help shopping in person for the lighting, plumbing and stone/tile. Thus far during construction, Dave Stone and Angelique Dupree have been responsive to our concerns and Elizabeth Litke has been maintaining an organized timeline to keep everyone on schedule. Her weekly project update emails are helpful to know where we are and what's ahead next. We are very excited to see the completed project! Highly recommend the MAC team!

When we decided to remodel our kitchen this year (2024), we interviewed seven design-build firms and asked three to come and visit our kitchen. We selected MAC Design-Build based upon their creative design that allowed us to look at all of the options in the new kitchen. Caitlin Gilhuys provided a design that turned a kitchen remodel into a work of art. Her mix of colors and textures were superb. But a kitchen remodel is not simply a design. MAC’s project management and quality workmanship took the entire project to a new level. Derek Leiter and David Stone lead an exceptional design-build team. I strongly recommend MAC Design-Build and particularly recommend Caitlin as a designer.

Just signed a contract with them! They have been a pleasure to work with through the design phase and hashing out the specifics to the contract. I want to give a shout out to our Senior Estimator, Justin O'Connell. He helped us get through design of our master and guest baths, keeping in mind all of our goals. And more importantly, our budget. Justin has also stepped in and helped with the construction portion and that has been a significant help in our process. While we're a little more than half way through construction, we wouldn't be where we are without him. I highly recommend using Justin if MAC is your choice!

We had our basement finished with MAC in 2022. The project was beautiful but the experience we had was really made amazing by Justin. Justin was the first person we met at MAC and when he came out to our house I knew we had the right people for the job. Justin patiently listened to our ambitious plans for the bar in the basement and was diplomatic in managing our expectations. Would work with him and the MAC team again in a heartbeat.

This review is based solely on the feasibility study as I have yet to work with this company on a project. I requested a formal estimate from MAC for my kitchen renovation and bump out. I was scheduled promptly (less than 2 weeks from request) and the team that came to the house was very professional. They asked a lot of detailed questions and were very thorough which makes me feel comfortable the resultant plans and estimate will reflect what we are looking for. I especially enjoyed speaking with the designer Allison. She was very easy to talk to and seemed to pick up on our vision for the space very quickly.

My wife and I were considering building a basement, and met with a number of different companies. Justin O'Connel, MAC's architect, met us as part of the initial conversations and immediately put us at ease with his knowledge of the process and insightful questions that helped us think through the project. Justin and the whole MAC team have been fantastic and we are very happy we went with them for our project.
